Customize without a settings page

Image editing needs no dedicated settings. Public/viewable post types with thumbnail support are included automatically. WordPress checks post-editing permission, the Quick Edit nonce and image assignment when saving. The media library follows the user’s WordPress permissions.

Exclude post types

Define QEFI_DISABLED_TYPES before use, for example in wp-config.php:

define( 'QEFI_DISABLED_TYPES', array( 'book', 'download' ) );

The existing ddw/quick_edit/post_types_disable filter receives the exclusion list and expects the desired list back. QEFI_GERMAN_STRINGS remains available for existing installations; the value ja uses neutral image labels for German user locales.

Languages and snippet

English is the source. de_DE and de_DE_formal are bundled. Custom language files under wp-content/languages/quick-edit-featured-image/ remain supported. The admin snippet is an explicitly maintained alternative distribution. It contains the core feature, loads no installed components and can use custom language files. Never activate the plugin and snippet together.

Data and external connections

The core feature uses only WordPress’s native featured-image assignment and stores no dedicated settings. Deactivation and uninstall preserve posts, images and assignments.

The updater contacts the public GitHub release API for this repository and downloads chosen updates from GitHub. Successful responses are cached for 30 minutes, errors for 10 minutes. No user profile or plugin inventory is transmitted; the server sees the requesting IP address. There is no telemetry or bundled credential. Automatic updates are not enabled.

The Library displays a local catalog; optional online retrieval is initially disabled. Once enabled, the approved central discovery catalog is cached for 24 hours. Installation requires user action. Library settings and install records use deckerweb_library_settings_v1 and deckerweb_library_installed_v1, network-wide on Multisite. Introduction status uses deckerweb_library_intro_seen_v1. Caches and temporary package files belong to the Library. The final physically installed host cleans temporary data; shared settings are retained by default. The Library’s own deletion option is initially off. Other installed hosts, including inactive ones, and foreign content remain protected.

Compatibility

PHP minimum 8.1; WordPress minimum 6.7. ClassicPress is no longer supported as of 1.4.0. No dedicated plugin settings page is added; the shared Library owns its settings. Site and network activation should provide the same core feature per site.

Origin and license

Updater 2.1.0: unchanged runtime from the official DECKERWEB distribution deckerweb-updater-2.1.0.zip. Library 0.8.0: unchanged runtime from the prepared 0.8.0 distribution, with the local 20-plugin catalog; the optional current online catalog is maintained separately. Both are GPL-2.0-or-later. The host adds translations and its own package validation. The experimental Library updater-bridge patch is not applied to the stable updater engine; both update paths remain separate.

Legacy marketing artwork using Remix Icon remains archived with its existing credit. The current approved artwork is original DECKERWEB artwork with editable SVG sources. The original 1.3.0 SVG placeholder remains byte-identical in both table rendering branches. The approved navy/teal artwork uses “Choose. Replace. Done.” / “Auswählen. Ersetzen. Fertig.”.

Releases

Feature changes receive an appropriate minor version; bug fixes receive a patch version. Incompatible changes and new minimum requirements are explicitly documented. A local test ZIP does not publish a release. The complete relevant history is in the changelog.

Library 0.8.0 is bundled from the centrally prepared runtime and fixes final-host cache cleanup. Its standalone Library release is managed separately.
